A few words from our Director Gary Knowlden

In my 35 year career, I have been fortunate to have experienced most aspects of glassfibre manufacturing and had the opportunity to stay abreast of technical developments and new methods.

I started my profession as a young man being asked to scale a tall spire at London’s Lincoln’s Inn Law Courts to replicate detailed oak architecture in GRP and to gold leaf gargoyle figure heads – that incident wet my appetite for the variety of work that the GRP medium could deliver!

Within my career, I have been involved in building over 1200 sailing yachts in the marine industry whilst working for Sadler International and then Starlight Groups. I then moved into industrial and commercial markets, producing:

• architectural work within London for Chelsea Hospital and Maida Vale Church Spire
• aviation flight simulation models
• high-speed printing and circuit board casing
• aquatic tanks for European clients
• chemical tanks in gargantuan proportions
• industrial ducting
• modern hydraulics, including lifting caravanette roofs
• capsule pods holding weather data for aviation
• developments for the BBC
• precision work for laboratories and defence
• Currently , items for the 2012 Olympics

I am still very privileged to work with these most valued and respected contacts in the industries.

It has never ceased to amaze me how this crude method of build from ‘yester year’ known as the sticky, spiky material has developed so fast to become a technical revolution!

We look forward to hearing from you,

Gary Knowlden
Company Director
